Last Night of the Proms

last night of the proms

Rotary-Congleton’s annual celebration of the Last Night of the Proms moved to the Town Hall for the first time this year.. The Rotary Club made the move as the event was popular but cramped at what had become its regular home at the New Life Church. However, the Town Hall looked the part, decked out in Union Flags, the night was very successful and was enjoyed by a sell-out audience, which has assured the event’s return for future years.

The musical accompaniment was provided by the usual favourites; The Rode Hall Silver Band together with the accomplished mezzo-soprano Sara Maxwell, accompanied by Christopher Cromar on the piano. The audience played their part, joining Sara with rousing singing and flag-waving to the classical Promenaders’ favourites of “Rule Brittania” and Jerusalem.

A really enjoyadble evening with people looking forward to next year’s event
