Congleton MP Sarah Russell was the guest speaker at Rotary-Congleton’s meeting on Monday, 16th February. Mrs Russell kept off party politics (Rotary is a non-political organisation) and her talk focused on her work as a Member of Parliament.
Mrs Russell, only the 650th female member, described her working week, splitting long days between the 96,640 people in the Congleton constituency and Tuesdays to Fridays spent in London. She believes in influencing political thinking by quiet diplomacy rather than making controversial speeches and alienating her party. As a result, her list of roles and achievements since entering parliament in July 2024 is extensive.
She gave Rotarians a critical insight into how MPs cope with working in the parliament buildings, which are all in need of refurbishment.
